Weird Wonder Tales

Weird Wonder Tales

A Marvel Monster series. One of the last surviving Marvel monster series that, like most of them, started in the early 1970's. The last 4 issues also starred Doctor Druid as a 'host' to the horror stories inside. This was done in hope of making the series more 'continuity loaded' and thus preventing the declining sales from canceling the magazine. Unfortunately it did not work, and Weird Wonder Tales was cancelled with issue 22, surviving most other 'horror genre' comic-series from Marvel.

Weird War Tales (1997)

Weird War Tales (1997)

"The Willow Warriors" is a story of an eternal confrontation between two shoguns who, after their factions' continuous failure to earn victory, have decided to send their most powerful fighters to settle the battle.

Weird War Tales (1971)

Weird War Tales (1971)

With the Comics Code Authority relaxing its decades long stance on censoring the use of monsters and the undead in mainstream comics, DC placed an emphasis on the horror of combat with "Weird War Tales." The hybrid genre series was hosted by death, who appeared in new military garb every issue to present gritty tales of combat with overtones of suspense, science fiction, and paranormal activity. Produced by a who's who of war comic greats, including series editor Joe Kubert, writer Robert Kanigher, and artists Alex Toth and Russ Heath, the series' 124-issue run also introduced readers to cult favorites like the Creature Commandos.

Weird Mystery Tales

Weird Mystery Tales

DC's latest horror anthology didn't enjoy as long a life as the company's other Weird themed titles. However, the host that was first presented ina framing sequence by author Marv Wolfman and artist Bernie Wrightson would provide endless creative material for Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman" series decades later. Cloaked in a dark robe and cowl, Destiny's stories came from a large book chained to him, containing events past, present and future. Despite his blindness, nothing escaped his notice - except, perhaps, the fact that the biblical Eve would replace him as the series' host after fourteen issues.
